Make delicious and crispy Veg Golden Coins with bread, mashed potatoes, sesame seeds, and spices. This easy snack recipe is perfect for tea time, lunch boxes, parties, and evening cravings.

Hello! Friends, Crispy Veg Golden Coins are a delightful and visually appealing snack perfect for evening tea or kids' lunchboxes. Made with round bread discs topped with a spiced potato mixture, coated with a golden gram flour batter, sprinkled with sesame seeds, and deep-fried to perfection, this snack is loved by all ages.
Check off ingredients as you gather them.
In a large bowl, mash the boiled potatoes thoroughly using a potato masher or glass.
Add chopped onion, green chili, fresh coriander, dry mango powder (amchur), red chili powder, salt, and grated garlic. Mix everything well with your hands to form a uniform potato mixture.
Take bread slices and cut them into round circle shapes using a glass, cookie cutter, or sharp bowl. (You can save the leftover bread edges to make breadcrumbs later).
In a small bowl, add gram flour (besan), a pinch of salt, and a little water. Whisk to make a thick, smooth paste. Ensure the paste is thick so it adheres well to the bread.
Take a round bread disc, place a portion of the potato mixture on top, and spread it evenly using a spoon, keeping it slightly domed in the center to resemble a coin.
Gently spread a thin layer of the prepared gram flour paste over the potato mixture using a spoon, and sprinkle some white sesame seeds on top.
Heat oil in a pan on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide the golden coins into the oil, potato-side down first.
Fry until golden and crispy, then flip and fry the other side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serve hot with green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, or tomato ketchup.
These Bread Potato Golden Coins are a crispy tea-time snack with a crunchy bread base and a flavorful potato topping. A thick gram flour coating helps the topping stay intact while frying and gives the coins a beautiful golden crust. Serve them hot with green chutney, sweet tamarind chutney, or tomato ketchup for the best taste.
Mash the potatoes until completely smooth so the topping spreads evenly and doesn't fall apart while frying. Keep the gram flour paste thick enough to coat the potato layer without dripping. Fry the golden coins on medium heat, starting with the potato side down, to ensure a crispy exterior and evenly cooked filling.
Yes, you can air fry them at 180 degrees C for 10-12 minutes or bake them in a preheated oven until crispy, brushing them with a little oil first.
You can use all-purpose flour (maida) or corn flour paste instead of besan. Maida gives a lighter, whiter appearance, while besan gives a beautiful golden color.
Ensure the oil is sufficiently hot before frying. If the oil is cold, the bread will absorb a lot of oil. Also, the thick batter coating helps seal the potato mixture.
